The greatest part of life for me is the journey of becoming. What is that? It is the whole process of becoming a more valuable person. The principle is the same if you dig ditches or calculate compound interest. It works for everyone.
I remember as a young man taking jobs I knew I wouldn't be happy with. They didn't pay well and the work more often then not was dirty and backbreaking. So why would I take such a job? Because I knew the person (me) who started that job would not be the one who finished. I took jobs like that to "get in the door" as they say. I sucked it up, and knew I was going to get a raise or a promotion. How did I know? Because I always raised my value!
I would make it a goal to become more valuable to the company I worked for. I can't tell you how many certificates I have from Home Correspondence Courses or Adult Education classes. I looked around, saw a need or job I wanted and learned it!
Sometimes I would ask to stay late to learn a particular job for free. The point is to get the skill and become more valuable. And if the company you work for doesn't appreciate you, put the new skill on your resume', send it out, and enjoy the benefits of being the person you have become- a person of more value!
