How often have you had an upcoming event rattle your nerves? Maybe you have a speech to give or a presentation and the butterflies are dancing. What do you do? Two things.
First, practice visualization techniques. Close your eyes and see and feel yourself in the situation. Play positive outcomes over and over in your mind. Give your brain the goal of success and then get out the way.
The second technique has worked wonders for me. Because I am an activist and radio show host, public events don't bother me. You would be surprised at the things in life that give me pause. Anyway, what I do is visualize the after-event. In other words, I focus on what I plan on doing or where I plan on being after the event. So when I feel a little apprehensive, I concentrate on the event being over and it calms me. Try it. It works.
